The Messenger Assist
A downloadable game for Windows and macOS
This game was made in 72 hours for Ludum Dare 46.
Board the starship Messenger as a manifestation of the ship's computer, and keep your pilot alive long enough to escape. The game is over after you go to warp and the console reads "Mission Complete" - however, you can continue to tinker with the ship afterwards as long as you like.
Controls:
- Mouse - Look around (mouse settings can be changed in the pause menu)
- WASD - Move
- Left Click - Interact
- Escape - Pause

Very nice and polished game!
Great game! Anxiety inducing at first sight, but didn't take me too long to figure it out.
Very polished short game, i enjoyed being the assistant and it was very panic inducing at first when you have to do things that are critical to your survival. Thank you for making this! 2nd game.
It took me some time to figure everything out, but that was worth it! I hope there will be a longer game with such a great concept :)
This was an awesome game to play even though I am playing this two years later but it was really good and made me feel very pressured to figure out how to fix the machine without the time running out. Eventually I figured it out. Awesome game! Keep going!
wheres the battery
The shield battery is to the right of the main screen with all the information on it. Look around for red stuff!
cool
your game is very good I was panicking while I was playing this game I like your games
great concept great game i only wish it was longer
the graphic is too good my potato can't run it. is there a graphic setting available?
Amazing work visually and narrativly XD
great game
Hey graebor does this game have a world record speed run yet?
Not that I'm aware of! With the way the sequence works there is a limit on the minimum possible completion time, if you're fast enough to rewire everything before you're asked to.
uh wheres the sheild battery im confued
this seems really cool but I cant get it because I'm afraid the ambient lighting is going to destroy my puny laptop PC.
This is a very cool game, but I can't understand what am I supposed to do. Everything is shaking so much, I turn everything on but the woman says: "Oh no you turned everything off except that self-destruction-protocol-thing", and everything becomes red. But I'm pretty sure that I am just too casual for this game, so 5/5.
I know you said you weren't looking to expand the game, but any chance at adding an "invert mouse" option? I feel like I'm trying to write with my off-hand.
There is now an option to invert your mouse via the menu!
I LOVE IT! I LOVE YOU! I NEED MOAAARRRRR... ♥
This game is amazing, I absolutely love this idea of plunging cables to reroute electricity.
Do you plan on making this a full title? Or iterating on this in any way?
I don't currently have any plans to expand this game, I'm quite pleased with how the jam went so I intend to let the result stand as-is for the time being :)
This game is a nice take on the theme, it's difficulty is what makes this awesome to play.
This is super cool.
I feel like difficulty ramped up way too fast, would've been nice to have a few steps before losing the splitter. But I really like what you did. 👍
Hey there, I tried this on a macOS 10.15.3 and it would not open. The error message just says "The application “TheMessengerAssist_MacOSX” can’t be opened."
Hi, sorry to hear that - can you check your security settings as described here? You may need to allow the app to open from Security & Privacy as described at the bottom of that page. Let me know if that helps!
Thanks for replying! I tried to look into Security & Privacy pane, but there is no button there for me to press. Also the alert shown with the error message isn't the same error shown when an app is from an unidentified developer.
I dug into the mac logs and found this, hope it helps!

I appreciate the additional info! I've updated the mac build to hopefully resolve the issue. If you're willing to give it another shot, try downloading a fresh copy of the game. In researching this a bit, I've read that another potential issue is that the game may not work correctly if you use an app other than the default Archive Utility to unzip it.
Thanks for the effort! It works now! I will give it a spin later today.
This game seems amazing ill come back with a report
the mouse sensitivity is to high even if you change it but the visual's and story is amazing its really hard with that high sensitivity
Hi! My apologies, there appears to be a bug in this version of the game engine where mouse sensitivity becomes very high for some people when using vsync. Try turning off vsync in the game's pause menu. Failing that, I've also uploaded a new build with a better mouse sensitivity setting that you can turn all the way down to 1% - so if you're willing to give it another go, download the game again to access that updated setting.
